Beneath Spaghetti Junction: Salford Bridge in the 1920s

Salford Bridge in 1924. Held at Birmingham Archive.

Salford Bridge, today, stands in the shade beneath Spaghetti Junction, but was a thriving part of Gravelly Hill with shops, houses and a pub called the Erdington Arms fifty years ago. This has all gone now, it was swept away with the coming of Spaghetti Junction, something that I hope would not happen now. The bridge is now buzzing with traffic, with fumes that can take your breath away.

This is what it looked like in the 1920s.
